Ex-Bills Linebacker Von Miller Signs Contract with the Commanders

After spending months on the sidelines without a team, NFL veteran Von Miller has made a stunning return to the league after reportedly signing a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders. As such, the 36-year-old linebacker, who has won two Super Bowl championships in his prolonged and illustrious career, will join the likes of Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Laremy Tunsil, among others, for the 2025-26 season.

Von Miller returns to the NFL with the Washington Commanders

On July 16, renowned NFL insider Tom Pelissero took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that Von Miller has agreed to a contract with the Commanders. ESPN’s Adam Schefter corroborated the news shortly afterwards, revealing the length of Miller’s deal with Washington in his X update.

“It will be a one-year deal between Von Miller and the Washington Commanders, but the two sides still are “finalizing terms”, per a source,” Schefter wrote.

The move comes after the seasoned edge-rusher was prematurely released by the Buffalo Bills earlier this year. Von Miller had originally signed a six-year contract, worth $120 million, with the Bills back in 2022. However, consistent injury troubles restricted him to just 36 appearances over the course of three seasons, with Miller recording a total of 14 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, along with a forced fumble, during that period. As such, the Buffalo Bills ultimately decided to cut their losses short and released the eight-time Pro Bowler in March 2025.

Von Miller himself took to X to hint at his reportedly agreed-upon contract with the Washington Commanders. In a July 16 post, he shared an image of himself in the Commanders’ uniform, along with the caption, “DC… What’s good??”

Now in the twilight of his career, Miller would be looking to add a third Super Bowl title to his glittering resume, this time with the Commanders, come next season.
