A fire broke out a day before crowds were set to arrive for the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium and severely damaged its iconic main stage. The incident occurred in the town of Boom, near Antwerp, just as final preparations were underway. While no injuries were reported, the massive blaze raised serious concerns among fans and officials.
Tomorrowland Belgium fire incident explained
A large fire broke out on Wednesday evening at Tomorrowland’s main stage in Boom, Belgium, just one day before the music festival was set to begin. As of now, no injuries have been reported. However, the fire caused extensive damage to the festival’s center stage. It also led to the evacuation of some nearby residents as firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading to the nearby forest and homes.
Organizers confirmed the fire on Tomorrowland’s website, stating that the Orbyz main stage had been “severely damaged.” Images and footage widely circulated online showed dark smoke and towering flames engulfing the stage setup. The fire, which broke out around 6:00 p.m. local time, prompted a swift response from hundreds of firefighters. Although the exact cause remains under investigation by Antwerp prosecutors, early indications suggest it was accidental.
The loss of the main stage has prompted logistical challenges for performances by headline acts. This includes acts by David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Lost Frequencies, and more. In its latest social media post, Tomorrowland stated, “It is impossible to put into words what we’re feeling.”
Despite the destruction, festival officials have announced that Tomorrowland will continue as scheduled across both weekends. About 100,000 attendees are expected to arrive in Boom for the first weekend alone, with the DreamVille campsite opening on Thursday as planned. Organizers said they worked with safety officials and local government to find workable solutions. A formal contingency plan was under discussion, and demolition of the damaged structure may proceed before Friday’s opening.
