Jonathan Bailey details Scarlett Johansson friendship

Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson recently spoke about their off-screen friendship and on-screen dynamics in Jurassic World Rebirth. Bailey told PEOPLE he knew he would “get along” with Scarlett Johansson after being “tipped off” about it.

Johansson recalled a mutual friend of theirs telling them, “You guys are going to really have a great time together.” She added that their friend’s words compelled them to form a friendship as they “couldn’t” disappoint them.

Bailey echoed Johansson’s sentiments, jokingly responding, “Exactly. We owe it to them, the responsibility to get along.” The Broadchurch alum shared his first impression of Johansson, saying he thought she was “super funny, intelligent, and kind.” He said that the Marriage Story actress had “incredible energy,” leading the film both “on and off camera.”

“It just was so apparent very quickly that it was going to be a knockout summer,” Bailey added. Johansson revealed that she, along with Bailey and the rest of the cast and crew “laughed a lot” while making the film. She further mentioned that they were all “thrown into such extraordinary circumstances physically,” while filming, calling the experience “insane.”

Bailey called the filmmaking experience “magical.” He noted that the people he got acquainted with during filming were “the cherry on the cake.” Johansson and Bailey also opened up about the on-screen dynamic of their characters, Zora Bennett and Dr. Henry Loomis, respectively. The former said Zora was impressed by Loomis’s “passion and kindness,” adding that she found his “enthusiasm” to be “very charming.”

“He’s very full of life and curious,” Johansson continued. “His curiosity is very appealing to her, and they just immediately click in that way because they’re both curious.” She emphasized that Loomis and Zora found common ground as people who “dedicated” their lives to “something” they were “passionate about.”

Meanwhile, Bailey, who called Loomis “so tightly wound,” said that the latter deduced Zora’s “emotionally intelligent” nature and skill at “placating situations.” The actor said, “I think she reads him really well from the get-go.” The Fellow Travelers actor then echoed Johansson’s views on their characters.
