Veteran actor Chris Robinson, best known for playing Dr. Rick Webber on ABC’s General Hospital, has died at the age of 86.
Actor MJ Allen confirmed the news in a Facebook post, stating, “He peacefully passed in his sleep at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona. He had been in heart failure for some time, and is his official cause of death.” Robinson died on June 9, 2025.
General Hospital paid tribute with a post on X, writing, “General Hospital’s enduring legacy owes a debt of gratitude to Chris Robinson and his portrayal of Dr. Rick Webber. Our hearts go out to his family and friends as they mourn their loss. May he rest in peace.”
Robinson began his career in the late 1950s with stunt work. He appeared in 1960s shows like Sea Hunt, 77 Sunset Strip, and Perry Mason. He gained recognition for portraying Sgt. Sandy Komansky on 12 O’Clock High. He joined General Hospital in 1978 as Dr. Rick Webber, the adoptive father of Laura (Genie Francis). His character was involved in a love triangle with Lesley (Denise Alexander) and Monica (Leslie Charleson), both of whom died in 2025.
Robinson gained pop culture recognition for appearing in Vicks Formula 44 commercials, where he delivered the line, “I’m not a doctor, but I do play one on TV.”
After General Hospital, Robinson played Jason Frame on Another World and Jack Hamilton on The Bold and the Beautiful.
