Apple users might find a major camera upgrade with the upcoming iPhone 17 models. According to rumors and “leaked” images of dummy models, the upcoming 17 Pro iPhones may feature a rectangular camera bump with rounded edges.
iPhone 17 camera upgrade rumors explained
The new iPhone 17 series might get a major camera upgrade for all the models. According to MacRumors, all four iPhones of 2025 will feature an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera. The upgrade will allegedly replace the current 12-megapixel front camera.
For the Pro models, fans can expect a trio of 48-megapixel lenses, including a “48-megapixel Fusion lens, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens, and a new 48-megapixel Tetraprism Telephoto lens.”
Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro model features an advanced dual-camera system with a 48-megapixel Fusion Lens. It also has an Ultra Wide 12MP front camera. The Pro Max version of the iPhone 16 has a trio of three lenses, including 48MP Fusion, 48MP Ultra Wide, and Telephoto.
Following the 16’s telephoto lens launch, the 2025 models will see an “upgraded” telephoto lens as the “standout” feature. For iPhone users who use the Pro models as professional video-capturing devices, Apple is allegedly introducing brand-new enhancements.
The new iPhone 17 Pro models could support recording in 8K quality, compared to the 16 Pro models, which support only 4K quality. Another rumor suggests Apple may add a new feature for Pro models that lets users adjust the light reaching the lens. Moreover, rumors in tech circles state that the new iPhone 17 Pro models may finally support dual video recordings.
Additionally, Jon Prosser, of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, alleged that the rectangular camera bump at the back will retain its original structure of the lens for Pro models. However, the overall camera section will be stretched out around the rounded edges. The YouTuber also quoted sources stating the new iPhone feels “lighter.”
Meanwhile, fans are excited about some of the rumored camera upgrades that iPhone 17 models might see. One user posted on Reddit, “Dual video recording has been my favorite Android feature since the LG G2. Finally, Apple has caught up.”
Others have their skepticism around the 24 MP camera upgrade rumor. One posted, “Hard to believe the new 24MP front camera on all 4 models instead of just the pros.”
