Jennifer Lawrence addresses Robert Pattinson’s sex scenes
Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson recently sat down for an interview with French social media outlet Brut, where they discussed filming sex scenes for Die, My Love.
“It was very easy. Um, and there was a lot, and there was like kind of instant trust,” Lawrence said. “I mean, when you’re doing the kind of scenes that we have to be doing, you know, you don’t always get to pick your co-stars and you don’t always feel comfortable.”
The Hunger Games star then shared how director Lynne Ramsay made both her and Pattinson take “dance classes” before shooting Die, My Love. She admitted that the experience was “humiliating and embarrassing” for both her and Pattinson, who echoed her sentiments. However, she acknowledged that Ramsay’s task had “helped a lot.”
“And then on our first day of shooting, we were naked and attacking each other like tigers,” Lawrence added.
Pattinson then pointed out how they thought things couldn’t get “more embarrassing,” until he and Lawrence were instructed to perform the tiger-mimicking scene “naked.” The two actors then concurred that Ramsay’s suggestion was a “good idea.”
“If we didn’t like each other, then it becomes increasingly more awkward,” The Batman star added. “Taking direction as well when you’re naked as well, it’s genuinely quite funny.”
Despite the humiliating and awkward experience, both Lawrence and Pattinson got “used to” filming the scenes, according to the former. “And you’re just like, talking, getting notes, having a snack naked,” she jokingly added.
The stars were then asked whether an intimacy coordinator helped them film the sex scenes. Lawrence confirmed that an intimacy coordinator was present, saying, “I felt safe the whole time. Rob was very appropriate.”
Pattinson then joked that he was a “very unthreatening guy pretending to be a cat.”
The two actors then noted that having intimacy coordinators on set was helpful. Pattinson added that they were instrumental in handling awkward conversations about “technicalities” of being naked on camera.
