Film producer and media tycoon David Geffen has recently filed for divorce from David Armstrong. The separation comes just after two years of marriage, after they reportedly exchanged vows in 2023. The 82-year-old billionaire remains an influential figure in the music industry as the owner of several notable record companies and production studios.

David Geffen and David Armstrong’s divorce explained
On May 16, 2025, TMZ reported that media mogul David Geffen has filed for divorce from David Armstrong, aka Donovan Michaels. People obtained the divorce filing, which confirms that Armstrong did not sign a prenuptial agreement before they tied the knot in 2023. Geffen cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation. Additionally, Geffen is represented by popular celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser. They marked their separation date as February 22, 2025.
Although Forbes estimated Geffen’s net worth to be around $8.7 billion. He relies solely on income from stocks and other equities, having been retired for over 15 years. California law states that dividends from stocks are separate property. Hence, Armstrong will not be receiving any substantial amount of property from Geffen. However, the former dancer will be receiving spousal support for half the length of the marriage. In this case, that amounts to one year. Additionally, the divorce filing stipulates that Geffen will also pay for the attorney’s fees.
Geffen married David Armstrong in 2023. Armstrong is a 32-year-old former go-go dancer who went by the alias Donovan Michaels. Although it remains unclear how the pair met, the New York Post reported that Armstrong is also a fitness instructor who used to train Geffen. Throughout their relationship, the pair maintained secrecy apart from occasional glimpses on Instagram. This includes a now-deleted post from December 2021. It featured the billionaire posing with Armstrong on his mega yacht, the Rising Sun.
