Karol G’s statement on new hair color explained

Karol G’s new hair color is brown, which is her natural hair color.

In a recent interview with TODAY, promoting her new Netflix documentary Manana Fue Bonito, the “Ocean” singer explained why she dyed her hair brown.

“I just went back to my natural color of my hair, because there is so much going on right now, so much coming right now,” Karol G shared. She also cited wanting to be her “most natural and authentic and genuine” self as the reason for her hair color change.

Karol G has frequently changed her hair color to mark different chapters in her life. She launched her career with the aforementioned brown hair. In 2019, she debuted pastel pink and purple locks with the release of her music video Tusa, featuring Nicki Minaj.

Then in 2020, the BICHOTA artist dyed her hair teal. This color became a prominent staple of both her professional and personal lives for much of that year.

Next, in 2022, Karol G once again dyed her hair, trading her teal hues for cherry red. She then changed her Instagram avatar to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid to better reflect this change, also tweeting, “I finally look a bit more like The Little Mermaid” (via Billboard).

Later in 2023, Karol G showed off yet another hair color change. She switched her red locks with pastel pink ones. She showed off this new look in an appearance on Saturday Night Live with Ana de Armas.

Lastly, in 2024, Karol G switched the pastel pink hair color for blonde with dark roots. She showcased this look at the MTV Video Music Awards.
