What Was Shannon Sharpe Accused of? Charges Explained

Former NFL star and media personality Shannon Sharpe is facing serious charges of sexual assault and battery. The allegations come from a woman who filed a $50 million lawsuit against him in Nevada. Now, many are curious about what the lawsuit is about.

Here are more details about the lawsuit against Sharpe.

Shannon Sharpe’s lawsuit and charges explained

Shannon Sharpe has been hit with serious charges in a $50 million lawsuit filed in Nevada. A woman has accused Sharpe of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and battery during their two-year relationship.

According to court documents, the woman claims she met Sharpe at a gym in Los Angeles when she was 20 years old and he was in his 50s. She alleges that although the relationship started consensual, it became toxic over time.

The lawsuit also highlights disturbing claims, including that Sharpe secretly recorded their sexual encounters and showed them to others without her consent. One alleged incident includes Sharpe reacting violently when she attempted to share her location with friends, reportedly threatening to kill her.

The woman also accused Sharpe of becoming increasingly controlling and verbally abusive. The situation reportedly escalated after Sharpe accidentally live-streamed himself having sex with another woman in September 2024. She also claims that he raped her in October 2024 and January 2025.

Sharpe has denied all the allegations. Through his lawyer, Lanny J. Davis, he labeled the lawsuit a “shakedown” and claimed it was baseless. Sharpe also addressed the matter in a video statement shared on Instagram, where he denied wrongdoing and revealed the identity of the woman who had filed the lawsuit.

Sharpe’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, said in a statement, “The lawsuit, filed by Gabriella Zuniga and orchestrated by her attorney Tony Buzbee, is a blatant and cynical attempt to shake down Mr. Sharpe for millions of dollars. It is filled with lies, distortions, and misrepresentations – and it will not succeed.”
