Pontefract, West Yorkshire
The majority of the series was shot in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. The Miller home was filmed at a real house in Carr View, Pontefract. The Fletcher family owns the house, and the makers felt that its location at the end of a long street would be perfect for the disturbing opening scene. In an interview with Dexerto, director Philip Barantini opened up on the choice of the house. He stated, “We knew it was going to be set somewhere in the north of England, and we also knew it would be from somewhere around wherever our Jamie was from because it would have been unfair to make [Owen Cooper] do an accent.” (via Dexerto)
Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Jamie’s school scenes were shot at Minsthrope Community College in South Elmsall. Additionally, the last scene of Episode 2 was shot at Minsthrope Leisure Centre.
Production Park, South Kirby, Yorkshire
The police station scenes were filmed in a 100,000-square-foot studio located near Pontefract. This popular studio is usually used for rehearsals by well-known artists like Coldplay and Sam Smith. However, the makers of Adolescence converted this rehearsal space into a multi-layered and realistic police station. Barantini described the studio as “a massive, brilliant space, and we were able to build our police station there, and also our [police] interview room.” He further added, “It became the nerve center of the entire production.”
