Iconic American motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson appears to be just hours away from announcing a revolutionary new model – their first electric motorcycle.
The Milwaukee based manufacturer released a 16-second trailer on Wednesday showing a bike flying down U.S Route 66, closing with the text “6.19.14” and the tag-line “Get Ready”. But it isn’t the teaser’s three seconds of actual bike footage causing all the commotion, it’s the sound of an electric engine, a far cry from the rumbling exhaust notes of traditional Harleys.
The release of an electric bike would represent a ground-breaking proposition from the 111-year-old company, making Harley Davidson the first legacy motorcycle brand to embrace electric technology.
Not convinced? A Scarlett Johansson stunt-double was seen on the set of the next Avengers film zooming around on an electric Harley, apparently completely street legal according to VisorDown.
“There are milestones that change history- those pivotal moments where the future is defined,” the company’s official announcement page reads. “This is one of them. Just like this country, Harley-Davidon has reinvented itself many times in our 111 years. This next chapter of our journey. Whether you’re a rider or not, we’re inviting you to take part in the experience, and be there for this historic ride forward.”
The official countdown to the Harley Davidson announcement expires Thursday at 8AM American Eastern Time.
