The cast of Napoleon Dynamite has reunited for the beloved cult film’s 10th anniversary, unveiling a flippin‘ sweet bronze statue of the film’s unlikely hero to mark the occasion.
Decked out in his trademark moonboots, high-waisted jeans and the iconic “Vote For Pedro” T-shirt, the curly-haired statue sits triumphantly beside the film’s star Jon Heder, in a photo released by Fox Searchlight.
In a shot taken from a wider angle, the statue’s actual function is revealed as a place to hold the ball for the studio’s tether ball set. Also in attendance were actors Shondrella Avery (Lafawnduh), Sandy Martin (Grandma), Haylie Duff (Summer Wheatly), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Tina the llama, who, the studio point out, is “still a fat lard.” Aaron Ruell, a.k.a Kip, was noticeably absent from the reunion, but we assume that’s because his cage fighting training has amped to a new level over the last decade.
Napoleon Dynamite premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2004. Co-written by and directed by Jared and Jerusha Hess, the film was made on a budget of $400,000, and didn’t even have an opening title sequence when it first screened at Sundance. It later grossed $44.5 million at the box office. Gosh!
