Fox Renews ‘The Simpsons’ For 26th Season In 2014

The last time that “The Simpsons” was up for renewal on Fox, it seemed as if the animation juggernaut was finally winding down as it headed towards its 25th season. But The Simpsons aren’t quite ready to leave just yet.

Although the 25th season kicked off only a few days ago, Fox has pulled the trigger on a quick renewal of “The Simpsons,” which should allow the series to continue in 2014 with no interruption. Created by Matt Groening in 1987 as animated comedy shorts on “The Tracey Ullman Show,” “The Simpsons” became a full fledged animated series in 1989 and it is one of the longest running TV shows of all time.

Fox’s Kevin Reilly made the official announcement: “For more than a quarter of a century, THE SIMPSONS has captured the hearts and minds of fans in a way that transcends ages, languages and cultures. This groundbreaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I’m looking forward to yet another landmark season.”

According to Deadline, “The Simpsons” voice cast are all expected to return. Previously, the negotiations between the cast and Fox have openly led to tension. However, this appears to be one of the few “drama free” contract renewals… at least so far.

Fans of Groening’s other animated series, “Futurama” will get to see a long-awaited crossover with “The Simpsons” at the end of the current season in May. This Sunday, Fox will unveil the annual “Simpsons” Halloween episode, “Treehouse of Horror XXIV.
