Iâm not saying aliens will be arriving on earth to take it over anytime soon, but if that happens in the near future it would be nice to have someone who is ready to fight them. You know, if Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith arenât available.

Well donât worry, because NASA is now on the lookout for a âPlanetary Protection Officer,â whose main job will be to protect earth and all its inhabitants from any evil extraterrestrial life.
âPlanetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration,â the job listing states. And that pretty much means that it would be your job to stop E.T. from wrecking havoc on us. And hey, what does a job that focuses on stopping aliens pay? Well, a salary between $124,406 and $187,000. Still less than a Kardashian.
The role is very, very exclusive, according to Business Insider, as there are only two full-time like roles in the world â one with NASA and the other with the European Space Agency. The job also has a five-year maximum duration according to NASAâs current Planetary Protection Officer, Catharine Conley. Conley also reveals that the job was âcreated to help meet an international agreement that space missions must have a less than 1-in-10,000 chance of contaminating an alien world.â
