The first-ever Regina International Film Festival and Awards, which will take place in October, will also aim to shed some light on those who are affected by mental illness.
“During the showcases, we will be screening a variety of films that range in length between five and 30 minutes that have ben hand-picked by our screening committee. And each show will screen different films from the ones that were shown previous to it,” explained Dawn Bird, RIFFA associate director, to the Leader-Post. “The response that we have received so far has been very enthusiastic, with a great deal of support, which has helped us secure some terrific talent, as well.” Forty per cent of box office proceeds will go to help fund mental health initiatives, John Thimothy, RIFFA chief executive director, told a gathering of film enthusiasts and politicians.
The Regina International Film Festival and Awards, which will feature both local talent and projects from abroad, will be held October 2-3 at the Conexus Arts Centre. Tickets can be purchased here.
