Yellowstone Star Added to The Rockford Files Reboot Cast

The upcoming reboot of the classic detective drama The Rockford Files has added another heavyweight to its growing cast, tapping Oscar-nominated actress Jacki Weaver to join the project. She will appear alongside previously announced star David Boreanaz in the NBC pilot.

An Oscar nominee joins the cast of The Rockford Files reboot

Jacki Weaver, known to a new generation of audiences for her role in the hit series Yellowstone, has been tapped to play an original character named Karma in The Rockford Files.

Unlike the pilot’s lead, Karma is not derived from the original series, meaning the show is creating fresh territory within the established universe. According to the character description, Karma is “Rockford’s long-time trailer park neighbor, she’s tough, outspoken activist and think-tank analyst.”

This role adds to a diverse and impressive list of credits for Weaver. Most recently, she starred in FX’s Clipped as Shelly Sterling. Her television work also includes Hello Tomorrow, Perpetual Grace, LTD, and Blunt Talk. For her film career, she earned Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress for Silver Linings Playbook and Animal Kingdom.

On the other hand, David Boreanaz leads the cast as the new Jim Rockford. The logline for The Rockford Files reboot describes him as a “witty, world-weary and chronically broke private investigator whose charmingly gruff exterior masked a strong moral core.” He is joined by Michaela McManus, who plays Kate, an East Hollywood detective with a complicated romantic history with Rockford after he publicly accused fellow officers of framing him.

The Rockford Files reboot follows James Rockford as he returns to his life as a P.I. after being paroled for a crime he didn’t commit, quickly finding himself in the crosshairs of local police and organized crime.

The project, which received a pilot order from NBC in January, comes from writer and executive producer Mike Daniels. Universal Television is producing, with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman also on board as executive producers. Greg Mottola is attached to direct and executive-produce (via Variety).
