All Fans Are Saying This About Disney’s Canceled Reboot

After reports of Disney‘s TV adaptation of Holes getting canceled, fans of the franchise seem to all share the same opinion. Almost all reactions to the gender-swapped reboot not moving forward mentioned that a remake is “unnecessary.” Many argued that the original 2003 film remains a classic and doesn’t need revisiting.

Fans are happy that Disney canceled its gender-swapped holes reboot

Fans took to social media to react to the cancellation of Disney’s planned TV adaptation of Holes. One fan, coming up with a very practical reaction, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The movie was damn near a perfect retelling of the book, I read the book a couple times in school & watched the movie, there’s very few differences in all honesty, a remake is unnecessary.”

Another X user, getting nostalgic about the 2003 film, commented, “The Holes live action film is the best adaptation of a book that I’ve personally watched numerous times and never get tired. It’s also close to my heart because I actually read the book in 7th Grade. The remake was totally unnecessary. I get it, but some things you don’t touch.”

In reply to another X post of the update, a fan suggested that Hollywood should come up with new stories, writing, “Good, hollywood should focus more on making new IP that people actually want to watch, Holes has been made and had it’s time, make something new.”

Previously, Disney adapted Louis Sachar’s young adult novel, Holes, into a movie with the same title back in 2003. Both the book and the movie were well-received by their audiences, with the book also winning the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature as well as the John Newbery Medal.

Earlier this year, Disney requested a pilot for the TV adaptation, with Alina Mankin writing and Jac Schaeffer directing. Shay Rudolph led the cast of this gender-swapped remake, with Greg Kinnear and Aidy Bryant also present in the lineup.
