The Batman 2: Scarlett Johansson’s Surprise Role Possibly Revealed

Scarlett Johansson‘s casting in The Batman 2 has ignited widespread speculation about who she could be playing. During discussions, names like Andrea Beaumont/Phantasm, Vicki Vale, and Poison Ivy have been suggested by fans.

Now, a notable industry insider suggests that instead of any of the characters mentioned above, the Marvel star could be playing a character connected to Harvey Dent, who is reportedly appearing in the film.

In the latest episode of John Rocha’s The Hot Mic podcast, industry insider Jeff Sneider shared that a source close to a casting agency told him that for the last few weeks, agents have been discussing casting for three new roles for The Batman 2.

He said that the roles were Harvey Dent, Dent’s wife, Gilda Gold, and Dent’s father. Sneider added that other scoopers said that two men, aged 40 and 60, were being eyed for Dent and his father. Sneider then revealed that Scarlett Johansson will play Gold.

However, Johansson’s casting as Gold has not been officially confirmed by the filmmakers as of writing.

In the comics, Gilda Gold first appeared in Detective Comics #66, which was released in August 1942. She has played a prominent role in stories featuring Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two-Face. In most versions of his story, Gilda is Dent’s fiancée. However, their relationship suffers following Dent’s disfigurement by mobster Sal Maroni during the latter’s trial and subsequent transformation into Two-Face.

Gilda plays a major role in the comic book limited series Batman: The Long Halloween, illustrated by Tim Sale and written by Jeph Loeb. In the book, her marriage to Dent becomes strained due to his obsession with stopping Gotham City’s organized crime. Around the same time, a serial killer named Holiday emerges and murders members of Gotham’s crime families.

Gilda later reveals herself as the original Holiday killer and admits to committing the murders up until New Year’s Eve, reasoning that she wanted to lighten Dent’s workload. She adds that Dent took her place on New Year’s Eve and continued the murders. Interestingly, Gilda’s admission is only known to readers, because Alberto Falcone, mob boss Carmine Falcone’s son, confessed to committing the murders as Holiday.
