Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were reportedly found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon. Authorities are investigating the incident as an apparent homicide.

LAPD officers and LAFD paramedics responded to the Reiners’ home around 3:30 p.m. on December 14, following a call for medical aid. First responders discovered a man and a woman, approximately 78 and 68 years old, dead inside the residence.
The LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the investigation, stating only that two people were found dead and that they are handling the case as an apparent homicide. According to PEOPLE, Rob and Michele Singer Reiner’s daughter, Romy found them dead.
The LAPD later confirmed in a brief statement that the case was being handled by detectives from the Robbery Homicide Division. Multiple reports stated that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner’s deaths are being treated as a homicide and that their injuries were consistent with a knife attack. Authorities have not released additional information about suspects or circumstances surrounding the deaths (via NBC4 Los Angeles).
Reiner first gained fame as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the seminal CBS sitcom All in the Family, a role that got him two Emmy Awards. He then went on to direct critically acclaimed films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men (1992). He also appeared in numerous films, including Sleepless in Seattle and The Wolf of Wall Street.
The son of legendary comedian and filmmaker Carl Reiner, Rob met Michele Singer while directing When Harry Met Sally…. The couple married in 1989 and shared three children: sons Jake and Nick, and daughter Romy.
