James Cameron discloses he’s a fan of KPop Demon Hunters
James Cameron opened up about his fodness for KPop Demon Hunters and spoke at length about his concerns regarding the future of cinema. While speaking at the European premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash, he explained to Empire Magazine that it’s getting harder for him to accept how viewers now rely almost entirely on streaming.
He sees “more and more people just sort of settling for the habit of watching things as it comes to them in their streaming service,” and that this trend makes him genuinely uneasy. “I’m concerned that cinema may cease to exist as we understand it or in the way that I grew up with it. And I don’t want that to happen, you know,” he said.
Cameron said that’s why he continues making movies designed specifically for theaters. He described the big-screen experience as something that can’t be controlled or interruptted. “I think of it as an unbroken sort of experience,” he explained. “You can’t pause it. We’re not in control. It takes us on a ride. It’s transportive. It’s an adventure.”
He contrasted that with watching a movie at home, where you can pause, multitask, order food, talk to friends. For Cameron, certain movies deserve undivided attention, the kind only a theater can demand.
And despite his concerns, the Terminator director still finds joy in today’s releases. When asked if anything recently had captured that sense of cinematic immersion he values so much, he admitted with a smile, “I did like K-pop Demon Hunters.”
