Elle Fanning revealed that she has completed filming for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, confirming that Effie Trinket will be returning to the big screen. “Well, I’m done filming it, so that’s done. Effie’s on the screen, which is super cool,” Fanning shared with Collider.

The Sunrise on the Reaping adaptation, directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence, is based on Suzanne Collins’ recently released novel set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story. It explores the 50th Hunger Games, which is famously known as the Second Quarter Quell, and delves into the origins of Panem’s televised bloodsport.

Fanning expressed admiration for the iconic performance of Elizabeth Banks, who originally brought Effie Trinket to life. “The clothes are great. I love what Elizabeth Banks did so much, so I’m like, you know, bow down to her! I hope I can make the fans proud,” she quipped. Further adding, “Francis is amazing. The cast is great. It was fun.”

She is referring to the director Francis Lawrence, and the cast includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and more. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping currently has no confirmed release date, but with filming complete and post-production underway, it’s likely to hit theaters in late 2026.

Fanning’s update comes during what she calls a “whirlwind November.” The actress is simultaneously celebrating the release of Neon’s Sentimental Value and the sci-fi thriller Predator: Badlands. Both films have hit theaters on the same weekend.
