We Were Liars Author Gives Major Season 2 Updates for Prime Video TV Show

Author E. Lockhart has shared thrilling new details about the highly anticipated Season 2 of Prime Video’s We Were Liars. From returning cast members to new developments that intertwine with her prequel, Family of Liars, the author hints at an emotional and mysterious new arc on Beechwood Island.

E. Lockhart gives casting and production updates on We Were Liars Season 2

E. Lockhart revealed that We Were Liars Season 2 will merge storylines from her prequel novel Family of Liars with the continuing arcs of the main cast. The series, led by showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, will not simply retell the book. “They have lots of ideas up their sleeves, so that people who know Family of Liars will get to see everything that they want to see, but they will also get to be surprised,” Lockhart told Deadline.

Furthermore, the upcoming season will delve deeper into the eerie revelation involving Aunt Carrie (Gummer) and her deceased son Johnny’s ghost, which was left unresolved in We Were Liars Season 1. Lockhart confirmed that the show will balance past and present timelines, exploring how both generations of the Sinclair family remain tied to Beechwood Island’s secrets.

Additionally, E. Lockhart confirmed that several familiar faces will return for We Were Liars Season 2. Joseph Zada will reprise his role as Johnny Sinclair Dennis. Emily Alyn Lind will also return as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, the show’s central narrator from Season 1. Alongside them, Mamie Gummer, Caitlin Fitzgerald, and Candice King, who play the three Sinclair sisters Carrie, Penny, and Bess, are all coming back.

Moreover, Lockhart expressed full confidence in the vision of Plec and Mackenzie. She has confidence in their ability to create binge-worthy television that stays true to the “complex,” “messy,” and emotionally charged heart of the We Were Liars universe. “They’re interested in creating an experience for Season 2 that feels like the experience they delivered in Season 1 — that is, emotionally invested in big messy characters,” she shared with Variety.

We Were Liars Season 2 release date hasn’t been announced yet, but We Fell Apart is releasing on November 4.
