When asked about when fans could expect another season, Waldron replied, “If we make season 2 it will come out at roughly the same time next year that this season did, nobody wants y’all to have to wait years for this s—.” That means if Hulu decides to renew it, Chad Powers Season 2 could release around October 2026.
When asked how many seasons he would need to tell the perfect story, Waldron stated, “Three seasons is our ideal number. Take the Catfish through this full football season.” Chad Powers’ three-season plan suggests a meticulously plotted arc, following Russ Holliday’s lie as it spirals through an entire college football season.
Waldron has even cited Breaking Bad as a model for this approach, emphasizing the real-time consequences of a hidden identity. “That’s really the story of Chad Powers,” Waldron explained to Deadline, “seeing him through this college football season.” This methodical strategy ensures that every deception carries weight, promising escalating drama and character development in future seasons.
He also dropped a few fun details about what’s on the drawing board. The writers are eyeing real college football programs for upcoming storylines, possibly featuring appearances from well-known SEC coaches like Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin, and even NFL quarterback Jameis Winston. Waldron specifically mentioned Florida as a key location, saying its vivid look and energy fit perfectly into the show’s next phase.
