Jonas Pate allegedly grabbed and screamed at production assistant on Outer Banks set
According to a report by TMZ, Outer Banks co-creator Jason Pate allegedly grabbed a female production assistant, shaking and screaming at her for undisclosed reasons. Sources close to the production told TMZ that “tensions were high” during filming.
When the situation reportedly escalated, the lead actors, Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline, separated the two, diffusing the confrontation. One source also revealed that such outbursts are not “unusual,” adding that “it’s about time that it’s made public.”
Later, PEOPLE reported on the incident with more details. According to the publication’s source, Jason “was screaming at the female production assistant and grabbed her by her shoulders and shook her.” The source clarified, “He didn’t hurt her or try to hurt her. He just crossed a line. Putting your hands on someone is never, ever okay.”
Neither Netflix nor Jason Pate has released an official statement regarding the incident.
Josh Pate co-created Outer Banks with Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke. They are currently filming the fifth and final season in Croatia. The action-adventure drama follows a group of teenage friends set in a coastal town in North Carolina, a town split between the wealthy Kooks and the working-class Pogues.
The teens hunt for legendary treasure tied to the disappearance of John B.’s father, the group’s leader. This attracts the attention of the law and the wealthy people who want to claim the treasure for their own.
Netflix has announced that the show will return sometime in 2026.
