Marvel Has Huge Plans for 2 X-Men Villains Following Reboot

According to a recent rumor, Marvel might have plans for X-Men villains, Apocalypse, and Mister Sinister in the MCU post-Avengers: Secret Wars. However, characters who will appear in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot have not been announced yet. Thunderbolts* fame Jake Schreier will direct the upcoming X-Men reboot.

Marvel rumored to have big plans for X-Men’s Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister

Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for X-Men villains Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse. Scooper Daniel Richtman recently shared this rumor on his Patreon. He wrote, “I hear once more Marvel’s main plans for [the] next saga are for Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse.”

Based on the scoop, just like Thanos and Doctor Doom, Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister might be set up as the major antagonists of the reported Mutant saga. As the X-Men reboot is currently in the early stages of development, there is no information available regarding who will play these roles. However, Richtman shared that Marvel seemingly has “some names they have in mind” for Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister.

Furthermore, the scooper stated, “Ryan Reynolds is making his own mutants team-up movie for next saga.” There is little information available regarding the upcoming Marvel’s X-Men reboot.

While speaking to the press in July 2025, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said their major focus will be Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters as it is “a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don’t belong.” He continued, “That’s the universal story of mutants, and that is where we’re going” (via Variety).

Jake Schreier also spoke to Empire in August and revealed, “I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting.”

While Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to come out in 2027, Marvel is reportedly eyeing a 2028 release for the X-Men reboot.
