As per a new rumor, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could feature a fan-favorite character in a prominent role. This comes alongside the release of the film’s first teaser during Nintendo’s latest Direct, generating excitement for the movie.
Yoshi to have a ‘huge role’ in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Speculation around The Super Mario Galaxy Movie gained traction on September 13, 2025, after noted scooper, MyTimeToShineHello, hinted at a major development on X (formerly Twitter).
The post suggested that Yoshi will not only appear but play a significant role in Super Mario Galaxy film. In the same update, the scooper also claimed that production is already underway on a Donkey Kong film. It reads, “Yoshi WILL have a huge role in Super Mario Galaxy movie and they are already working on a Donkey Kong movie, like already doing animation for that.”
As of now, no studio or official source has confirmed these details. The rumor remains speculative, and while it has captured fans’ attention, it should be taken with a grain of salt.
The rumor arrived around the same time Nintendo and Universal used their most recent Nintendo Direct broadcast to confirm the film’s official title. Titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026. Fans were also given a brief teaser trailer. However, it did not reveal much details about the plot.
Fans can also expect the voice cast from the previous Mario installment to return. This includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The movie is being co-financed by Nintendo and Universal Pictures, with Universal handling global theatrical distribution.
