Only Murders in the Building has just dropped its fifth installment, and speculations regarding a potential Season 6 have already started to surface on the internet. Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who play two of the three leading characters in the series, have shared their thoughts regarding the future of the show, noting that the latest addition to the franchise might not be its last.
Martin Short believes Only Murders in the Building Season 6 will happen
Martin Short, who portrays the struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam in Only Murders in the Building, shared that according to him, the show should get at least one more season. His co-star, Selena Gomez, chimed in with a similar viewpoint, stating that she really wants the series to continue.
Short opened by highlighting the uncertainty in obtaining renewal for any series, saying, “You can just be canceled” (via USA TODAY). However, he then admitted that there is a considerable chance for Only Murders in the Building Season 6 to happen.
“We believe we’re doing another season; we think so. But you have to live season by season. And even if it was canceled tomorrow, we would have to say, ‘We had a great, great run.’ … We loved what we were doing. It was a great way to spend five, six years,” the two-time Primetime Emmy winner explained.
Meanwhile, Gomez, who plays the up-and-coming artist Mabel Mora in the series, noted that she has been able to “grow with” her character and would love for Only Murders in the Building to continue with a Season 6. “I really hope that I can just keep evolving Mabel as I get older, because I want to do this for a long time,” the singer/actress said.
Only Murders in the Building recently released its fifth season, premiering its first three episodes in one go on September 9. The remaining seven episodes in the season are set to follow a weekly release pattern and will come out on Hulu and Disney+ every other Tuesday.
