Chris Evans on Playing a Failed Movie Star in Sacrifice After Flops in Recent Years

Chris Evans faced a surprisingly personal question while promoting his upcoming film, Sacrifice, at a recent event. Having incurred a string of flops after his term as Captain America in the MCU came to an end, the veteran actor was asked if his choice to accept the role of a struggling actor had anything to do with his recent career progression.

Chris Evans on if he was worried to play a failed movie star in Sacrifice

During his recent appearance at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the Materialists star disclosed whether he had any concerns about taking on the part of a failed actor after having served a string of flops in recent times.

“I mean, listen, obviously, at face value, there is a little bit of an overlap, and that could be part of the reason why you might wanna play the role,” Chris Evans responded in a joking manner. (via Reddit)

The 44-year-old artist then opened up about what actually drove him to accept the part of a failed actor. Evans stated, “When I read the script, what I saw…Mike Tyler is a character that’s suffering. It’s not just that he’s an actor and that we can connect on that level. I saw a guy that was at a crossroads in his life where he was looking to wake up. He didn’t even know he was asleep. It was about a person who was at a point in his life where the old familiar patterns weren’t working anymore, and he was suffering. To me that felt universal. “

Helmed by Romain Gavras, Sacrifice revolves around the journey of Mike Tyler, a failed film actor, played by Chris Evans, who attempts to resurrect his career at a charity gala. However, things soon go awry when a group of radical voters crashes the event and kidnaps Tyler. The movie recently had its world premiere on September 6, 2025, at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival.
