Wuthering Heights Trailer Gets Mixed Reactions From Margot Robbie Fans

Fan reactions poured in after Warner Bros. unveiled the teaser for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, featuring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. Set to release on February 13, 2026, the teaser trailer highlights their passionate romance and features new music by Charli XCX. The cast of Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel adaptation also includes Shazad Latif, Hong Chau, and Alison Oliver in supporting roles.

How fans have reacted to new Wuthering Heights’ trailer

On social media, reactions to the new Wuthering Heights’ teaser trailer ranged from enthusiastic praise to sharp criticism.

One user wrote, “Emily bronte is rising from her grave as we speak because why did they turn wuthering heights into fifty shades of heathcliff and cathy.” Another viewer added, “Hollywood needs to get it through its skull. Wuthering Heights is not a romance. It’s a Victorian tragedy. You’re not making Twilight on the Yorkshire Moors.”

Other fans pointed to the novel’s themes of class and racial marginalization. A post read, “Wuthering Heights is a book about a lower-class man destroying himself and everyone around him because of the racial dehumanization he goes through. Only the 2011 adaptation even attempted to depict this and it suffered from a poor script.”

Another reaction added, “Also, Wuthering Heights is more of a revenge type of story with some romance in it, exploring the dark nature of said feeling, and condensing it to just ‘uwu secret forbidden love’, the whitewashing, the clear historical fashion mistakes, I think people can be mad.”

Not all responses were negative. Charli XCX confirmed, “New original songs by me for Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. in theatres february 14th. happy early valentines <3.”

Positive responses were recorded under the official teaser upload as well. A top comment read, “The cinematography looks beautiful.” Another viewer wrote, “This looks like one of those weird 1980’s sensual horror gothic movies from when I was a kid growing up in the 1990’s watching tv at night with my grandma. I went and saw Nosferatu with my girlfriend, guess I’ll go see this.” Yet another individual posted, “Who else screamed YES! When you saw Ewan Mitchell.”

The teaser’s release also followed the debut of the first official poster, showing Robbie and Elordi in an intimate embrace against a moody backdrop.
