Dexter: Resurrection Actor Reacts to Angel Batista’s Shocking Fate in Episode 9

Dexter: Resurrection Episode 9 ended with the shocking death of one of the characters who has been part of the narrative since the inaugural season of the original show. And now, the actor behind this much-loved character is speaking on the subject. Dexter originally aired on Showtime between October 2006 and September 2013. Its success spawned three spin-offs: Dexter: Original Sin, Dexter: New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection.

David Zayas says Angel Batista knew he might die soon in Dexter: Resurrection

The ninth episode of Dexter: Resurrection ends with the death of David Zayas‘ Angel Batista, a character who first appeared in Dexter Season 1 Episode 1. In Resurrection Episode 9, Batista gets captured by Peter Dinklage’s Leon Prater due to his misunderstanding of the circumstances. When Dexter arrives for a meeting with Prater, he finds his former colleague strapped to the bed. Prater offers the eponymous serial killer an offer: If the latter kills Batista, Prater would become his benefactor.

Likely driven by the camaraderie they once shared and the fact that Batista doesn’t fit his kill code, Dexter frees Angel Batista. However, Batista then tries to strangle him to death. Ultimately, Dexter survives after Prater shoots Batista to death. As Batista dies, he says, “Dexter Morgan… F— you.”

According to Zayas, Batista was aware that the end might be near. “If you notice at the end of Episode 7, he’s in the car and Dexter tells him, ‘If you know who I am, this is not going to end well for you,’” the 63-year-old actor told Variety. “Batista understands that. I understand that. But he’s already passed the point of no return, and so that’s where it ends up. Either he was going to get Dexter or he was going to go out like this.”

Notably, Batista’s potential death was discussed in an article on our site, SuperHeroHype.

In the above-mentioned interview, Zayas noted that Batista has become cynical in the latest chapter of the Dexter franchise despite holding onto his inherent optimism over the years. “It’s almost like he’s not innocent anymore,” The Running Man actor added. “He’s been jaded, and for Batista, that’s a big deal.”

Dexter: Resurrection streams on Paramount+ with Showtime every Friday.
