The Waterfront Canceled at Netflix After 1 Season

The Waterfront has been canceled by Netflix before Season 2. The first season arrived on the streaming platform in June 2025, with chances of it getting renewed for a second installment. However, the decision came just two months after its debut. The series featured Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Jack Weary, Melissa Benoist, and more.

Netflix cancels The Waterfront before Season 2

Netflix has canceled Season 2 of The Waterfront, created by Kevin Williamson. The show first dropped on the streaming platform in June and has been subjected to mixed reviews since then.

The exact reason for the cancellation has not been revealed (via The Hollywood Reporter). However, Netflix may have made this decision because the series reportedly failed to find an audience. Despite The Waterfront making it to the platform’s top 10 shows, it received immense competition from the blockbuster show, Squid Game.

In his new Instagram story, creator Williamson shared his reaction to The Waterfront getting canceled and stated, “A big thank you to everyone who watched The Waterfront. While I’m sad the Buckleys won’t be back for Season 2, I’m celebrating the joy that was Season 1. I had the pleasure of working with a dream cast and crew.”

Williamson had previously shared his plans for Season 2 with Variety. He also stated his experience working on Season 1 and conveyed, “I love writing about families — I think that’s what I always gravitate toward.”

He further continued, “I wanted to tell a story about this broken family that’s trying to fix itself, and why they have to do it individually and together. There’s a lot of secrets going on, and there’s a lot of resentment, there’s a lot of trauma, and there’s a lot of the past poking through the cracks.”
