While the casting rumor about the possible appearance of Florence Pugh’s Black Widow in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has only just popped up on the internet, Tom Holland spoke about the potential appearance a long time ago. An old clip of the actor giving an interview during the promotional tour for No Way Home has now resurfaced. In it, Holland expressed his wishes to star alongside Pugh in the MCU.
Old video of Tom Holland wanting Spider-Man and Black Widow team-up resurfaces
Prior to the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Tom Holland held a conversation with Entertainment Tonight and revealed to the media outlet that he really wants to share the screen with Florence Pugh’s Black Widow sometime in the future.
As seen in the video reposted by Spider-Man News on X (formerly Twitter), the Uncharted star stated, “I wanna work with Florence Pugh. I think she’s amazing, she’s so good in that movie and all the movies she has done. I think she’s fantastic, so I think a really cool Spider-Man / Black Widow movie would be a fun little twist.”
Further fuelling fan speculation, Pugh shared a similar viewpoint in a 2023 BuzzFeed interview, stating that she’d want to share the screen with Spider-Man. “I’ve been desperate to meet Tom [Holland] for such a long time,” the 29-year-old actress said. (via Best of Pugh)
A new rumor now suggests that the two stars’ wishes might come true in Spider-Man 4, with Pugh’s Yelena Belova rumored to have already joined the film’s cast.
If the rumors turn out to be true, Pugh will be joining a star-studded lineup in Brand New Day, which includes Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, Michael Mando, Sadie Sink, and, most recently, Tramell Tillman, among many others. The upcoming film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
