With the debut season of Amazon Prime Video’s Butterfly recently concluding its run on the small screen, actor Daniel Dae Kim has shared an exciting update on Season 2. In a recent interview, the Tony Award nominee, who plays the leading role of David Jung in the spy thriller series, shed light on the renewal possibilities of Butterfly, while also talking about potential settings for the second season.
Daniel Dae Kim says his Butterfly character could settle ‘somewhere else’ in Season 2
While speaking with TV Insider, the 57-year-old actor noted that he remains hopeful for Butterfly getting renewed, despite there being no official word about a second season as of yet.
“I have lots of hopes for it. I hope there is a second season, first of all,” Daniel Dae Kim said.
He then mentioned that the structure of the show would allow them to have an international setting for Butterfly Season 2, provided that it ends up happening. “What I like about the show is that we’re already establishing that it’s an international show,” Kim pointed out. The Avatar: The Last Airbender star also added, “It makes the world our oyster. We could go anywhere. And given the nature of what David and Rebecca do, you could see them traveling. You could see them settling somewhere else. That’s kind of the goal at the start of Season 1. So we’ll see.”
Notably, all six episodes of Butterfly Season 1 take place in Korea. As such, a different setting in a potential second season would not only help Prime Video expand the world of the gritty spy thriller but also open new possibilities for future installments in the franchise.
Released on August 13, 2025, Butterfly revolves around David Jung, a retired US intelligence agent who now resides in South Korea. However, when a nefarious spy organization commissions an operative to terminate Jung, he embraces his past to ensure the safety of his family.
