Why You Shouldn’t Expect a Mad Men Reboot Anytime Soon

John Slattery, who played Roger Sterling in all seven seasons of AMC’s period drama series Mad Men, recently spoke about the prospect of his return if a reboot of the iconic series were to happen. Mad Men originally aired from 2007 to 2015 and garnered critical acclaim and several awards. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest shows ever.

John Slattery confirms that he has no intentions to return for a possible Mad Men reboot

Slattery made it clear during a recent interview with Parade that he didn’t want to reprise his role as Roger in a potential reboot of Mad Men. “People ask, ‘Dude, don’t you wish you could repeat that?’” Slattery explained. “I have no interest or desire to try to repeat it, because we had that. That’s what’s so great about working on something like this. There’s no obligation to be anything like that. It’s just another story. And the variety of this business is, is what drew me to it in the first place,” he added.

Although the actor seemingly expressed interest in appearing in a prospective sequel series, he also mentioned his doubts about Roger being around for that to happen. “Roger Sterling is dead and gone,” Slattery speculated. “He didn’t live much past the end of that show, I don’t think,” he further stated.

Slattery received several accolades for his performance on Mad Men, including four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. As a member of the cast of the show, he won two SAG Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Created by Matthew Weiner, Mad Men takes place between 1960 and 1970 and predominantly revolves around Jon Hamm’s enigmatic Don Draper, who works as an advertising executive at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (later renamed as Sterling Cooper & Partners). Roger is a senior partner at the agency and Don’s mentor.

While Slattery may not return in a potential Mad Men reboot, fans can catch him on his upcoming show, USA Network’s The Rainmaker.
