Chicago Fire’s Daniel Kyri Teases Season 14 Return Despite Series Exit

Actor Daniel Kyri, who portrays firefighter Darren Ritter in the procedural drama series Chicago Fire, teased a brief return on the show’s Season 14. Darren made his debut in Season 7 and was a recurring character initially. He became a series regular in Season 9 and remained so until his departure in Season 13.

Daniel Kyri can come back as Darren Ritter in Chicago Fire Season 14

Kyri recently hinted on his Instagram Stories that Darren could return for a “limited time” in Chicago Fire Season 14. He shared a photo with co-stars Jocelyn Hudon and Hanako Greensmith. “Back! For a limited time only,” he captioned the image, likely indicating that Darren will return briefly in the upcoming 14th season. In another image he reposted on his Instagram Story from the set, shared by Jocelyn Hudon, Kyri appears alongside David Eigenberg, Miranda Rae Mayo, Christian Stolte, and Brandon Larracuente in firefighter gear.

Notably, Jocelyn Hudon stars as Paramedic Lizzie Novak in the show, Hanako Greensmith as Paramedic Violet Mikami, David Eigenberg as Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann, Christian Stolte as Senior Firefighter Randall “Mouch” McHolland, and Miranda Rae Mayo as Firefighter Stella Kidd. Meanwhile, Brandon Larracuente has joined the cast in Season 14.

In April 2025, several outlets reported that Kyri and Jake Lockett, who plays Firefighter Sam Carver, are leaving the show. According to some reports, Kyri’s departure stemmed from efforts to lower the show’s budget. Showrunner Andrea Newman told TVLine in May 2025 that even though they didn’t have a set plan to delve into Darren’s exit, there were “lots of possibilities there” that could potentially be explored.

Chicago Fire, the first show in the Chicago franchise, debuted on NBC on October 10, 2012. The network renewed the series for Season 14 this May. It will premiere on October 1, 2025.
