Jason Statham’s next action movie has hit a turning point as Lionsgate shifts its release from January 2026. Statham-led Mutiny, originally slated to open the year with a clear box office window, now faces new scheduling dynamics amid the studio’s reshuffled slate.
Jason Statham’s Mutiny moved from its January 2026 release date
Lionsgate delayed Mutiny, the Jason Statham-led action thriller, from its original January 9, 2026, release and moved it to an unspecified summer 2026 date. The studio cleared the January slot to make room for Greenland 2: Migration, which will now open on that date.
Jean-François Richet (Plane) directs Mutiny, which stars Jason Statham as Cole Reed. After witnessing his billionaire boss’ murder, Reed is framed and forced to go on the run. As he evades capture, he works to uncover an international conspiracy. Annabelle Wallis and Roland Møller also star. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis wrote the film, and Statham produced it with Marc Butan.
Lionsgate announced the original release date in February 2025. At the time, Mutiny was set to debut a week after Universal’s Soulm8te and faced no direct box office competition.
The new release strategy mirrors the timing of The Beekeeper, another Statham film released by Amazon MGM Studios in January 2024. That movie opened with $16.5 million and grossed $162.6 million worldwide. It benefited from minimal early-year competition.
This isn’t the first major change in Lionsgate’s calendar. The studio recently confirmed that Greenland 2: Migration, featuring Gerard Butler, will now take the January 9, 2026 slot. The sequel continues the story of the Garrity family in a post-apocalyptic world and brings back Butler and Morena Baccarin in lead roles.
Lionsgate is expected to announce a new release date for Statham’s Mutiny in the coming months. The film remains on the studio’s upcoming theatrical slate.
