While the recently released Countdown series has yet to complete its Season 1 run, showrunner Derek Haas has already addressed the possibilities of releasing a Season 2. In a recent interview, the veteran writer opened up about the future of the Jensen Ackles-led Prime Video action drama while also shedding light on the final season count of the project.
Countdown creator gives positive update on Season 2 of the Jensen Ackles-led series
During his conversation with TV Insider, Haas provided a promising update about Countdown, which features Jensen Ackles in the leading role, potentially getting a Season 2.
“I’m feeling good. I haven’t done streaming before, so kind of all of the analytics are new,” Haas noted. He then added, “It’s different from when I was doing network and you knew the next morning, like, oh, this is doing great, whatever. But I’m excited because it feels like we continue to pick up viewers every week and so that gets me all excited.”
Haas then drew parallels between the long-running Chicago Fire series, which he co-created, and Ackles’ Countdown series, stating that the Prime Video feature could extend way past Season 2 if it is able to maintain and grow its viewership count. “I said this before with Chicago Fire way back when. I was like, as long as people keep showing up, we’ll keep making it. Now, did I think that would go for 14 years? I had no idea. So I will say the same thing about this: As long as people keep watching and digging it, then we will keep making it,” he explained.
Countdown revolves around the escapades of Ackles’ LAPD detective Mark Meachum, who joins a covert task force to investigate the mysterious murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer. So far, the show has premiered eight episodes, with the remaining five episodes scheduled to come out every Wednesday. Despite Haas’ encouraging comments, Prime Video has yet to officially greenlight Countdown Season 2.
