Eyes of Wakanda Rumor Hints How It Is Similar to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Marvel’s Eyes of Wakanda, a Black Panther spinoff, may have more in common than expected. A Marvel insider has hinted at a mythological figure’s presence in the animated series, with the finale reportedly connecting to key events from the first Black Panther film.

Eyes of Wakanda Black Panther series rumored to feature Odysseus

Rumors suggest that the mythological figure Odysseus will appear in Eyes of Wakanda, a Black Panther spinoff set in the MCU, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) shared by user @MyTimeToShineHello on July 30, 2025.

The post stated, “Odysseus is in Eyes of Wakanda, and [the] last episode ties into the first Black Panther film,” implying a narrative link between the animated series and the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Todd Harris created Eyes of Wakanda, a four-episode animated anthology series for Disney+. It premieres on August 1, 2025, as the first series in Phase Six of the MCU. The show follows the Hatut Zaraze, elite Wakandan warriors who travel through history to retrieve vibranium artifacts. The story spans multiple time periods and takes place within the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. The first episode begins in 1260 BC during the Western Bronze Age.

In Marvel Comics (Earth-616), Odysseus rules Ithaca and plays a central role in the Trojan War. He appears in myth-based arcs featuring the Trojan Horse, The Odyssey, and encounters with Circe and Loki. His story blends ancient mythology with Marvel’s broader superhero universe, similar to how Nolan’s The Odyssey reimagines the same myth for the big screen.

Series creator Todd Harris confirmed that Eyes of Wakanda will feature hand-painted animation by Axis Animation. The series will explore stories set in real historical eras, often reimagined with a Wakandan twist. Harris stated the show begins “during the end of the Western Bronze Age,” aligning with the time frame traditionally associated with Odysseus (via Entertainment Weekly).

The ensemble cast includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Steve Toussaint, Anika Noni Rose, and Jona Xiao, among others. Xiao recently revealed she is voicing an Iron Fist, and Harris described the show as a “spy-espionage” that spans time.

Marvel Studios has not confirmed Odysseus’ role in the Black Panther spinoff. All episodes will release at once on Disney+.
