Batman Would Assemble the Justice League After Superman, Theory Suggests

A new DCU theory reveals how Batman could take over the Justice Gang and transform it into the Justice League. With Maxwell Lord’s villain arc looming and Bruce Wayne’s resources in play, the pieces may already be in place for the iconic team’s formation later in James Gunn’s rebooted universe.

Batman could buy the Hall of Justice in DCU

Batman may become the key to forming the Justice League in the DCU through his connection to the Justice Gang.

Introduced in Superman, the team includes Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and Metamorpho. They operate from the Hall of Justice and are backed by Maxwell Lord, a corporate figure with a controversial history in DC Comics. Lord, initially well-intentioned, later becomes a manipulative villain who turns against metahumans (via TheDirect).

Sean Gunn plays Maxwell Lord in the DCU and made his debut in Superman. He will return in Peacemaker Season 2, where the Justice Gang will hold tryouts for new members. This storyline introduces Lord’s deeper involvement and lays the groundwork for his eventual shift from supporter to antagonist. In the comics, Lord manipulates the Justice League International before being exposed and opposing superhero activity altogether.

If Lord follows a similar path in the DCU, Bruce Wayne could intervene. With vast financial resources, Wayne may purchase the Hall of Justice and assume control of the Justice Gang. This would allow him to rebrand the group as the Justice League without disbanding it entirely. Hawkgirl, a founding Justice League member in the comics, could remain in the lineup alongside other existing members.

Wayne’s intervention would likely follow Lord’s fall, triggered by conflicts with Batman, Superman, or both. After defeating Lord, Batman may see the Justice Gang’s infrastructure as the foundation for a new superhero team. This would position the Justice League as a successor to the Justice Gang, formed under new leadership and values.

DC Studios has not confirmed when the Justice League will appear, but the timeline suggests it may take up to five years. James Gunn’s Chapter 1 rollout prioritizes solo character development before assembling the full team.
