A blurry House of the Dragon set video appears to suggest that trans actor Charlie Gordon is playing Daeron Targaryen in Season 3. Filmed in Surrey, England, the leaked footage appears to show the actor in costume alongside James Norton and Matt Smith, fueling speculation about Daeron’s long-awaited introduction. If true, Gordon would be the first trans man cast in a major/leading role within the Game of Thrones franchise.
House of the Dragon Season 3 possibly casts Charlie Gordon as Daeron Targaryen
The speculation gained traction after the fan account Westerosies posted on July 17, “As Prince Daeron Targaryen, Charlie Gordon becomes the first trans man to play a leading character in HBO’s ‘GAME OF THRONES’ Universe.”
Charlie Gordon, a 17-year-old actor from the UK, previously appeared in Netflix’s Matilda: The Musical and the stage production of School of Rock. According to his Backstage profile, Gordon is a trained actor, singer, and instrumentalist. In 2023, he publicly celebrated his legal name change and passport update, stating on Instagram, “My name is Charlie Eliot Gordon! It is officially CHANGED!”
If confirmed, Gordon will portray Daeron Targaryen, youngest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent Hightower. The character, known as “Daeron the Daring,” rides the dragon Tessarion and aligns with the Greens during the Dance of the Dragons civil war. Daeron was absent from Seasons 1 and 2 but was mentioned by name. He is expected to play a significant role in Season 3.
Fan response has been largely positive. “He and Aemond could legitimately be brothers, stellar casting,” one user posted. Another wrote, “Daeron is young and fresh-faced in the text. I think this honors the original material.”
As of now, HBO has not officially confirmed Gordon’s casting. However, multiple set leaks, tweets, and credited episode listings name Charlie Gordon as appearing in Season 3, Episode 4.
