Jane Harper’s The Survivors novel based show gets trailer and release date

The trailer for the upcoming Netflix mystery series The Survivors has been released. Created by Tony Ayres (Stateless), The Survivors is a small-town thriller series set in the fictional Evelyn Bay, located in the rough Tasmanian coastline. The six-part limited series is an adaptation of the 2020 book of the same name by British-Australian author Jane Harper. It will premiere on June 6, 2025, with all six episodes releasing together.

The cast of the Survivors includes Charlie Vickers as Kieran Elliott, Yerin Ha as Mia Chang, Robyn Malcolm as Verity Elliott, and Damien Garvey as Brian Elliott. The plot predominantly revolves around Kieran, a man haunted by the memories of an incident 15 years earlier in which two people drowned and a young girl vanished. Now, as he returns to his hometown, he discovers that one can’t escape the past. Soon, a young woman’s body is discovered, and the ensuing investigation threatens to reveal carefully concealed secrets.

According to Ayres, The Survivors is a “Trojan horse” because it is “a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery.” He said, “The things that are really at its heart are things like a son wanting his mother’s love and the mother who just cannot afford to give it because her whole world might fall apart.” (via Netflix)

Tony Ayres Productions developed the series in collaboration with Matchbox Pictures and Universal International Studios. It was shot on location in Tasmania. However, as mentioned above, Evelyn Bay doesn’t exist, and it originated in Harper’s book. Accordingly, a considerable portion of the production took place in Eaglehawk Neck in south-eastern Tasmania.
