Earlier this month, word broke that WGN America has canceled Outsiders as part of the networkâs ongoing quest to rebrand itself. Even the fact that Outsiders was the networkâs top rated show didnât seem to stop WGN America from pulling the plug, which meant that last nightâs season 2 finale could very well be the series finale as well.
However, Outsiders creator Peter Mattei is far from giving up on the fight to save his series. And in a new interview with Yahoo TV, Mattei expressed optimism about the showâs quest to find a new home while preparing for a third season. âWeâre still looking for another home, but thatâs still in process,â said Mattei. âYou know, itâs kind of in the middle of it. Weâre working right now on Season 3, breaking stories and everything for Season 3, so weâre in the thick of it, and weâre ready to go. Iâm not really ready to give [these characters] up either. I still dream about them, and theyâre a big part of my life, so if in fact they arenât coming back, itâs going to be a big adjustment.â

The ending of the second season left the Farrell clan in a dark moment as GâWinâs leadership was openly challenged by Big Foster, and Farrell civil war seems likely to break out. âWell, civil war is one way of looking at it, and another way of looking at it is itâs just anarchy,â relayed Mattei. âIn the sense that we would begin a new season without them having a real leader. And I think Little Foster has a really good point, which is that the fight over whoâs the leader has really created so much division in that family, and that maybe not having a leader at all would be way more beneficial to them in the long run. I think we donât know, but itâs a question mark that we would explore in the future if we can.â
