Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are broadening the initiatives to help protect children from the dangers of the online world. As per People Magazine, “The Parents’ Network”, linked with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Foundation, is collaborating with “Parents Together”. “Parents Together” is a national nonprofit focused on family advocacy and online safety.
The Sussexes issued a statement on their new joint venture
A major initiative from the Archewell Foundation is expanding the impact of its work. As per Express, the Parents’ Network is collaborating with “Parents Together” to enhance advocacy efforts in the area of online safety.
A statement regarding the announcement was made by the co-executive directors of the Archewell Foundation, James Holt and Shauna Nep. They mentioned, “The Parents’ Network was among the first organizations to raise awareness about social media’s devastating impact on children and teens. Today, the landscape is dramatically different.”
Meanwhile, reports state that collaborative efforts are being made on the research front. They indicate an urgent need for increased parental support. In fact, with emerging AI technology, more legislative protections are needed. As chatbots become more ubiquitous, this research from Parents Together highlighted many dangers. Researchers, under the guise of children, explored AI chatbot platforms. They encountered harmful interactions every five minutes.
Established in 2022, the Parents’ Network started as a community of families that lost a child to social media-driven suicide, or whose children have experienced trauma through social media. Thus, the new partnership will expand the network’s efforts to reach and assist more families.
The announcement came as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were honored with the Humanitarian of the Year Award.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a son, Prince Archie, 6, and a daughter, Princess Lilibet, 4. They listed their kids as a motivation to improve the online space to be safer.
