The butler described the intimate dinner that would ultimately lead to their marriage
Grant Harrold, who worked as a royal butler for King Charles from 2004 to 2011, recently shared details about the secret dinner date that “changed” things for Prince William and Kate Middleton. The couple briefly parted ways in 2007 before reuniting a few months later. PEOPLE reports that there was one particular meal that had Harrold and the other palace staff thinking that William and Kate were destined to marry.
Harrold recalled serving a private meal for William and Kate in 2008 at Highgrove House, months after their reconciliation. The former royal butler said, “It was just the two of them.” Harrold continued sharing that it was “really nice” and added, “quite special actually.” The biographer also recalled that William and Kate “very much interacted” with him throughout their “romantic dinner.”
Following that, the dynamics reportedly changed between the royal couple. Harrold revealed that before that, William and Kate “weren’t [really] holding hands,” PEOPLE reported. However, things shifted “when they got back together.” Harrold stated that “something changed,” and they were acting more like a couple. He added, “From then on, it was very much a waiting game,” referring to William and Kate’s eventual marriage.
Harrold also recalled being “convinced” that the Prince and Princess of Wales would “get married” after they “got back together.” William and Kate tied the knot in April 2011. The happy couple is now parents to three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
