Prince William‘s big decision to move to a new home with Kate Middleton and their kids may reportedly impact the future of Buckingham Palace. The royal couple has been living at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate for the last three years. However, they are gearing up to relocate to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, which will be their “forever home.” A new report now suggests that this decision makes the future residency of a monarch in Buckingham Palace uncertain.
Prince William’s moving homes could reportedly impact Buckingham Palace
A new report has suggested that Prince William and Kate Middleton moving to their new home for good could affect the future of Buckingham Palace. The members of the British royal family will reportedly shift to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park towards the end of this year. The Daily Mail has now learned from a source that the move is “for the long term.” William supposedly also has the “intention” to remain in Forest Lodge when he takes the throne after King Charles.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace has no royal family members currently residing in the property. The landmark in London is reportedly through a renovation. The Daily Mail’s report notes that £369 million of public funds are being invested in the refurbishments. This also includes the redecoration of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s suite of rooms. The works at the property will reportedly continue till 2027.
Amid this, according to the report, some sources believe it is unlikely that Charles and Queen Camilla will move back. They are now well established at Clarence House. Nonetheless, palace aides have still insisted that Charles “intends” to stay at Buckingham Palace in the future. Meanwhile, a source also told the Daily Mail that when William becomes the king, he will take an even more “pragmatic” approach to the property.
The source claimed that Forest Lodge will be the only “long-term” home for the Prince of Wales and his family. If this happens, William will be the first king since medieval times who will not reside in a palace. A source also highlighted that the move to Forest Lodge is a “fresh start” for the prince and his wife after “three really tough years,” which saw the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.
With Kate now being in remission, the family is “looking forward to creating many happy memories in their new home.”
