Page Six exclusively learned that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez recently filed a motion demanding legal fees from her brother. On July 28, the couple hit back in the ongoing, years-long court battle with the former journalist’s estranged sibling, Michael, with a new motion.
As part of the new petition, Bezos and his wife requested that Michael pay $182,374 in their attorneys’ fees and $8,182 in legal costs. According to the filing, the couple alleged that these expenses were “incurred in connection with (1) her successful Special Motion to Strike, and (2) this Motion for Attorney’s Fees and Costs.”
It further justified their demands, resulting from the Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) cases in response to Michael’s claims. Bezos and Lauren have sought their lawyers’ fees, disclosing that their hourly rates range from $549 to $1,125.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s legal feud with her brother sparked shortly after the Amazon founder’s divorce from his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, in 2019. At the time, Bezos had alleged that Michael Sanchez leaked his and Lauren’s explicit texts and photos to the National Enquirer. Michael vehemently denied the allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit against Bezos. However, a judge later dismissed the same, ruling in the latter’s favor.
Reportedly, in 2021, the billionaire received $218,385 in legal fees, and there have been more legal exchanges ever since. The latest development came weeks after Bezos and Lauren said their vows in a lavish Venetian wedding with a star-studded guest list.
Page Six reported that the pair’s lawyers have previously described the legal battle as a “multi-year campaign of harassment.” They accused Michael of trying to extract a “wholly undeserved financial settlement.”
