Selena Gomez recently gave fans a glimpse into her long-standing friendship with Taylor Swift. During her appearance on the “Therapuss with Jake Shane” podcast on Thursday, the singer revealed that the pair first became friends when they dated boys from the same family, namely the Jonas Brothers. Gomez also confessed that she and Swift connected over their respective breakups with Nick and Joe Jonas.
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift grew closer because of their dating history
It was not their songs but their dating history that initially served as a bond for Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. Speaking to the host on the August 7 episode of the “Therapuss with Jake Shane” podcast, Gomez revealed that she and Swift met and developed a friendship thanks to Jonas Brothers’ Nick and Joe.
Reflecting on those days, Gomez shared, “Everything’s like, you know, that’s cute. We were like young. We all know and love each other now, and it’s so cute. We didn’t know what we were doing.” The singer then said that she and Swift realized that the best thing they got out of their relationships was that they had each other in the end.
Gomez also noted that she was 15 years old when dating Nick Jonas, and Swift was around 18 during her relationship with his brother, Joe. Looking back at the “crazy curly Taylor,” she recalled how the “Love Story” singer had “all these bracelets that went all the way up.”
The “Emilia Pérez” actor then summed up their around 16-year friendship, which started with them bonding over the breakup “as girls do.” Gomez shared that she and Swift simply stuck by each other as they navigated life.
The 33-year-old proceeded to share a secret that aptly described the singers’ deep bond. Speaking to the host, Gomez further revealed that Swift played “Love Story” for her in a hotel room even before the song was released. The track then went on to make history, with the actor calling it “one of the most beautiful songs ever.”
Meanwhile, Swift was one of the few guests present at Gomez’s 33rd birthday celebration. The latter shared pictures from her party on Instagram, including an iconic photo of the best friends posing among the many balloons.
