A new report suggests that when Prince William becomes king, things will change for Prince Andrew following his series of scandals. An upcoming book titled “Entitled: the Rise and Fall of the House of York” has brought back the disgraced royal’s controversial past back in the headlines. Andrew was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages, as well as official usage of His Royal Highness, in 2022. Now, according to the latest claims by an expert, the Duke of York’s titles may also be at risk under William’s reign in the future.
Prince William will tackle controversies in a different way as a king, says expert
Prince William will reportedly adopt a “different approach” to the monarchy, which could pose trouble for Prince Andrew. Christopher Wilson, a royal historian and biographer, recently explained to The Telegraph how things could change under the Prince of Wales’ reign. According to the expert, William will not follow the late Queen Elizabeth II’s policy of avoiding acknowledging public criticism of the British royal family.
Wilson believes that King Charles, too, has “adhered to that as a safe policy” to a “large extent.” However, it may not be the case for William when he takes the crown. The expert stated that with the 43-year-old prince, it will be a “different approach.” Wilson continued to explain that William has “hard-nosed ideas.” This is regarding how the royal family “needs to appear in the frenzied social media world.” Wilson added, “I think will be ruthless.”
The Telegraph’s report also claimed that William is aware of how the monarchy’s reputation is at risk in the present times due to Andrew’s scandalous history. Therefore, the future king may not hold back from taking action against his uncle. The report also mentioned that there is a mechanism within the monarchy. It can allow parliament to remove a dukedom, as well as the title of prince. It would require legislation and then Royal Assent from the king.
In 2022, the BBC reported that Prince Andrew’s military titles and royal patronages were returned to the queen. At the time, the Duke of York retained his HRH title, but he couldn’t use it in any official capacity. Andrew stepped down from his royal duties in 2019. This came after his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein faced backlash.
