Swifties have eagerly been awaiting the “Taylor’s Version” of Taylor Swift‘s “Reputation” album, but a new report hinted that fans could be in for disappointment. The latest update comes after the singer-songwriter recently bought back the master recordings of her music catalog.
While Swift has re-recorded most of her titles, she has yet to do the same for “Reputation” and her self-titled debut album. Over the last few years, the singer released the “Taylor’s Versions” of four of her six albums. This came after celebrity manager Scooter Braun sold Swift’s music to Shamrock Holdings in 2020. Now, according to a new report, Swift won’t re-record the songs from her 2017 record. This is because she is reportedly out of that particular “headspace.”
Taylor Swift ‘cannot access headspace’ of ‘Reputation’ album, ‘source’ claims
The fate of the “Reputation” album’s “Taylor Version” hangs in the balance. Taylor Swift is reportedly not ready to re-record the love songs. Page Six exclusively learned from a source that the 35-year-old songwriter was not keen on finishing the re-recordings of the tracks. This is because they were written about Swift’s relationship with her former romantic partner, Joe Alwyn. The former couple were linked from 2016 to 2023.
The source claimed that it was about “not going back to songs that were written all about falling in love with Joe.” They explained that Swift “cannot” as well as “does not want” to “access that headspace now.” The source added that there’s “not a chance” for some of the tracks. This includes “Delicate,” “Call It What You Want,” and “New Year’s Day.” Swift has since moved on and is now in a high-profile relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce.
Meanwhile, Swift also gave an update on the re-recording of “Reputation” while announcing her masters’ buyback. In her heartfelt letter, the singer revealed that she hasn’t “even re-recorded a quarter of it.” Swift explained that the 2017 album was “so specific to that time” in her life. The “Style” hitmaker added, “I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it.”
Swift also revealed that “Reputation” was the one title that she thought couldn’t have been “improved upon by redoing it.” Nonetheless, the megastar teased that she could drop the unreleased vault tracks from that record.
