Netflix’s Live-Action Pokémon Series Gets Exciting Update in New Rumor

Netflix’s live-action Pokémon project has returned to industry conversations after months of silence. Recent insider updates have reignited curiosity about its development status, though official details remain limited. Sources suggest that more concrete information may surface in the coming year.

Netflix’s live-action Pokémon series still in development

Netflix’s live-action Pokémon series remains in active development, according to entertainment insider @MyTimeToShineHello, who stated on X, “It is still in active development and we should hear some news about it next year.” The update aligns with Variety’s earlier report confirming that Netflix was developing a live-action Pokémon project, expanding its lineup of adaptations from major Japanese franchises.

Variety previously revealed that Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson will write and executive-produce the upcoming Pokémon live-action series. The project remains in its early stages, and Netflix has not yet announced any details about casting, filming, or release plans. Drawing from his experience on Lucifer, White Collar, and Almost Human, Henderson brings a seasoned creative perspective to the adaptation. However, Netflix has not yet clarified the show’s tone or target audience.

The live-action Pokémon series will reportedly mirror the style of 2019’s Detective Pikachu, which blended live-action performances with CGI-rendered Pokémon to create an immersive cinematic world. The film, featuring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, demonstrated that realistic depictions of Pokémon could work within a cinematic framework. Netflix plans to capture a similar mix of adventure, emotion, and visual realism in its adaptation.

Netflix currently streams several Pokémon titles, including Pokémon Journeys, Pokémon Sun and Moon, and the original anime series, solidifying its role as the franchise’s primary global platform. The new Pokémon project expands the streamer’s growing catalog of live-action adaptations, joining One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Scooby-Doo. While Netflix has not set a release date, industry insiders anticipate updates in 2026 as development progresses.
